Russ and Denise Larson
Russ was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1957, but grew up in South King County, attending Tyee High school. He has two Siblings, younger sisters Kathy and Cheryl. He met the Lord through the ministry of Bill Moss and the Campus Life program, receiving his call to ministry in September 1977. Having pursued that call all his life, he recently celebrated 33 years of ministry. He attended Highline College, and then received a BA from Northwest College, majoring in Christian Education. He has served in several churches, beginning his career as a youth pastor. He has served the last 18 years at Fairwood Assembly of God as Senior Associate.
Denise was born in Seattle, also in 1957. She grew up near Sea-Tac airport, in the Riverton area. She has three siblings, sister Karen, and brothers Jeff and Gary. Russ and Denise met while serving in youth ministry, and we were married in 1981. They share a passion for God, the church, and are partners in ministry. She loves kids, and has worked and helped lead children’s ministries, and taught for years in Christian preschools. She is currently working as a nanny. Denise shares my love for people, and we have co-lead dozens of small groups. Denise is also a vocalist, and has sung on many worship teams over the years. Denise is talented support person, and her encouraging, serving and helps gifting is tremendous. It’s fair to say, everyone loves Denise!
Russ and Denise have two grown children, Zachary and Bethany. Zachary was born in 1988, and now works for the church doing maintenance, janitorial duties, and tech support. He is also enrolled at Edmonds Community College. Bethany was born in 1992. Like her mother, she is fun, relational, encouraging, and loves kids. She hopes to become a veterinary technician, and is currently the Office Manager at a hearing aid provider in Tukwila named Miracle Ear.
Russ is passionate about the Church—is there any doubt that it is the hope of the world? His vision of the church would include words like: life-giving, grace filled, faith building, community centered, accepting, contemporary, and outreach focused. We believe in being generous, joyful, relational, and genuine. We love to worship, pray, and see God change lives. Russ will preach and teach in ways that are understandable, applicable, Biblical and contemporary. He loves to laugh- and believes that the church should be a place full of laughter and joy. We envision a church that is fresh, honest, excellent, and loving.
Besides loving God, family and church, Russ enjoys playing tennis (with a passion), music, restoring and repairing cars, movies, the Seattle Seahawks, reading and studying (I read at least one book a week), coffee, and eating out (especially Mexican food!).
